It's British Pie Week from 1st to 7th March, and even though the country is still in lockdown, here are a selection of pubs and restaurants to add to your list, letting you tuck in after restrictions ease.
Pies by Plate
First things first, we may still be in lockdown, but there's no need to forgo a tasty pie to celebrate this year's British Pie Week. Plate, the restaurant in The Bird, Bath hotel, has been offering a takeaway service for the past few months, bringing you homemade deliciousness every week, and that includes hand-crafted pies. Choose from Chicken and Tarragon or Sweet Potato and Spiced Lentil, both served with buttered mash and winter vegetables. Available ready-to-eat or to reheat at home, and £12 or £15 per person, with pudding for an extra £5!
Nestled up Queen Street is The Raven, a properly British pub, serving the finest ales and gourmet hot pies, as well as some ‘not pies’. Once reopened after lockdown, visit and be sure to try their headline pie - the Raven Ale Pie - made especially for them by Bristol-based pie-maestros, Pieminister, using Raven Ale and West Country beef; or choose from five other warming pies, three types of gravy, and mash or chunky chips.
Bath Farmers’ Market
In addition to a score of other fantastic, West Country produce by the bucketload, Bath Farmers’ Market regularly plays host to local pie-tycoons, Lovett Pies. Having been continuing throughout lockdown, swing by on Saturday morning to pick up something tasty for supper. Choose from a menu of eight lovingly crafted recipes: their beef, stout and horseradish pie is a sure-fire way to enjoy the best of British, and they also offer three mouthwatering vegetarian options.
Overlooking Parade Gardens and the River Avon, a short walk from The Roman Baths, The Huntsman offers a great location to tuck into plate of pie and mash during your visit to Bath. Try their Pie of the Day after lockdown; a staple on the menu, head in to find out what deliciousness is on offer.
The Stable Bar and Restaurant
At The Stable, pizza(-pies), pie and cider is the order of the day. When lockdown eases and we're able to eat out again, choose from five deep-filled pies, all served with herby potatoes, a pickled onion and tomato chutney, plus a selection of more than 20 different ciders to wash down your chosen pie. Our mouths are watering already…
