About

Black Swan Sauna offers a unique outdoor sauna and contrast therapy experience set beside a peaceful lake at Glove Factory Studios, just 9 miles from Bath.

Guests are invited to cycle between a traditional wood-fired sauna, an outdoor shower with both warm and cold options, two plunge pools, and swimming in the lake (between October and April). This hot–cold contrast encourages circulation, supports nervous system regulation, and often leaves guests feeling calmer, clearer and more energised.

Both communal sessions and private group bookings are available, making the experience suitable for solo visitors, friends, wellbeing gatherings and celebrations. The sauna accommodates up to six people during communal sessions and up to seven people for private bookings. Larger groups can comfortably rotate during longer private sessions, with space to relax outdoors or visit the neighbouring café, Wild Herb at The Field Kitchen, while swapping over.

Black Swan Sauna also collaborates with experienced practitioners to deliver a varied programme of specialist sessions and events. These include guided contrast therapy, as well as integrated experiences such as sauna with sound bath, yoga, Pilates and breathwork.

With its lakeside setting, thoughtful approach and strong focus on both experience and education, Black Swan Sauna offers a distinctive and restorative wellbeing experience for visitors looking to slow down, reconnect with their bodies and enjoy something truly memorable.

Gift cards are also available if you want to treat someone to an authentic Finnish sauna overlooking lakes and countryside.

Sustainability

The sauna was built by SaunaCraft, a Bristol-based sauna builder known for bespoke craftsmanship and a strong commitment to sustainable construction. Materials are sourced from small, local suppliers wherever possible. The external larch cladding is sourced directly from the Longleat Estate, with timber processed at a Wiltshire-based sawmill near Holt. All additional timber used in the build, including doors and windows, is FSC-certified.

The interior is finished with Thermo Aspen, a high-quality, long-lasting material that requires minimal treatment and enhances the natural sauna environment. The sauna design follows traditional Finnish and Swedish principles, optimising heat circulation and energy efficiency through careful proportions.

Black Swan Sauna operates off-grid where possible. Lighting and battery power are supplied by an on-site solar panel, reducing reliance on mains electricity. Firewood is sourced from a local wood supplier using locally felled trees that required removal, supporting responsible woodland management and minimising transport miles.

Natural, eco-friendly cleaning products are used throughout the site, and water use is managed carefully across showers and plunge pools. By prioritising local sourcing, renewable energy and durable materials, Black Swan Sauna aims to offer a high-quality wellbeing experience with a low environmental footprint.
