Highclere Castle

About

This is your opportunity to visit the real Downton Abbey, where the hit TV series and movies were filmed. Enjoy a leisurely visit to the magnificent stately home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, the real name of which is Highclere Castle. Go behind the scenes and you will recognise many of the rooms used for filming the drama.

During this self-guided tour, you will also have time to visit the highly acclaimed Egyptian Exhibition and relive the moment when, in November 1922, Lord Carnarvon and Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings.

Enjoy lunch in one of the Castle’s several tea rooms or café, and maybe sample one of their famous cocktails or even a glass of champagne. Later, explore the Castle’s delightful gardens, woodland walks and flower meadow. Take photos to your heart's content in this beautiful setting as you retrace the familiar steps of Lord Grantham and members of his family.

The day also includes a stop at the beautiful Cotswolds village of Lacock, used as a backdrop to countless films and TV dramas including Downton Abbey. The ancient Abbey in the heart of the village boasts a charming museum that celebrates the achievements of William Henry Fox Talbot, the co-inventor of photography in 1839.

This-door-to-door service will transport you through the English countryside in the comfort of a luxury Mercedes V Class and return you to Bath at the end of a memorable day.
