About
2026 promises to be an exciting and memorable year at the American Museum & Gardens. The museum is celebrating its 65th anniversary and America 250, with inspiring exhibitions and events for all ages. The year ahead invites discovery and reflection across the museum's galleries, period rooms and gardens, as the attraction celebrates American arts and artistry.
America 250 marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Throughout the year, the American Museum & Gardens will be exploring the ideas, events and people behind the American Revolution and reflect on its lasting legacy.
From 14 February 2026, discover new America 250 displays in the museum, part of a special exhibition and trail exploring a fascinating time in US and UK history, including a full-scale replica of the declaration itself. Find out about the human stories bringing the museum's period rooms alive and fascinating objects from the 1700s, with a spotlight family trail for kids too.
Declaration of Independence on display
At the heart of the America 250 programme is a rare original 1776 Dunlap printing of the Declaration of Independence, on display in England for the first time during the 250th anniversary year.
Only 26 Dunlap copies survive worldwide, and this is the only known example to have been intercepted by British forces during the American Revolution and later annotated by British government officials.
The Declaration can be viewed in the Manor House from 16 June - 6 September, and on weekdays during July, you can visit for £2.50.
Events
Join exciting events throughout 2026 celebrating American art, history and culture, including welcoming back Professor David Olusoga OBE to the American Museum & Gardens, with his lecture revisiting the Declaration of Independence 250 years on.
More details will be announced in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back regularly!
