About
Calling all film enthusiasts! FilmBath has created a monthly film club showcasing award winning independent films.
On the last Sunday of every month, FilmBath will host an evening of film and food, with Q&As and post film discussions. The films are carefully chosen by the programming team to bring you that FilmBath feel out of festival time.
In competition at Cannes last year, French film director Leonor Seraille’s film is a beautiful piece of work. It tells the story of Rose (Annabelle Lengronne), who escapes from The Ivory Coast to France in 1989 with two of her sons, Jean and Ernest. The film is divided into three sections, each focusing on one of them in turn. It is Rose who dominates the film, with her majestic refusal to accept anyone else’s version of how she should lead her life. There are striking parallels with Brother, the excellent Canadian film which we showed at the recent film festival.
The food for this evening will be pizzas and you will be able to choose from a selection on the night. Veggie and vegan options available.

Coming-of-age movies are a dime a dozen; while most films about Native American characters are some combination of caricature, stereotype and cliche. What makes Riley Keogh and Gina Gammell’s award-winning film so special is that it is the product of collaboration with the people who are the focus of the film. The two women spent years on the project, getting to know the Lakota people of Pine Ridge, casting the right (non-professional) actors and insistent that the film should be representative of the lived life and experience of its characters. Film critics were universally impressed by the quality of the end product.
