About

Every year in November, Midsomer Norton (10 miles (16 km) south-west of Bath) hosts an illuminated Carnival.

The carnival procession is quite a spectacle to behold, with some of the floats being some 100 feet in length and adorned with thousands of light bulbs. There are many different types of class entries, ranging from Feature, with entrants dancing energetically to their routines in time to the music, to Tableau, which is as the name suggests, a still portrait of a scene. Along with the many ‘floats’ there are also Walking entries, which are just as magnificent in their own right, many of which are also festooned with lights.

With the Carnival attracting some 10,000 spectators, for health and safety reasons, roads have to close ahead of the procession, so if you are venturing out please make sure to leave adequate time.

For more information with regards to road closures and the procession route, please visit our website.
