About

Find out how the Romans really lived, not just how they're depicted on screen. Archaeologist Giselle Király will be comparing real archaeological sites and finds against their depiction in films, including The Eagle (2011), Gladiator (2000), and Gladiator II (2024).

Giselle Király is a commercial archaeologist and human osteologist, working on sites ranging from the peaty Mesolithic to Romano-British villas, and from Iron Age settlements to WWII Nissen Huts. Giselle can most often be found digging and leading excavations for PCAS Archaeology Ltd., as well as assisting veterans with their mental health through rehabilitative archaeology — a program called Operation Nightingale. You may also happen to spot her on the newly revived, Time Team.

This event is part of the Bath Archaeo-Heritage Film Festival, a five-day celebration of archaeology and heritage in cinema. Find out more at BAHfilmfestival.co.uk.
