The eagerly-anticipated Gainsborough Bath Spa hotel opens its doors today. The five-star hotel is located right in the centre of the city, adjacent to the world famous Thermae Bath Spa, and has access to the natural thermal, mineral-rich waters that bubble below Bath – which makes it the only thermal spa hotel in the UK! And its credentials don’t stop there. The restaurant is partnered with world-renowned Michelin starred Chef Johann Lafer, offering gourmet, locally sourced cuisine. Here’s the lowdown on what’s behind the doors of this grand hotel…
The Spa Village Bath
The Gainsborough Bath Spa is the only hotel in the UK with access to the natural thermal waters from the hot springs below. Take a dip in these healing waters in a choice of three pools of varying temperatures before refreshing in the ice alcove. And don’t forget to visit the steam room, sauna and infrared sauna too, for total relaxation.
There are a total of 99 bedrooms at The Gainsborough Bath Spa, with the opportunity to stay in impressive two bedroom suites, each with a private bathroom and communal lounge area.
There’s even a separate area in the hotel called Bellotts where you can exclusively hire out 14 guest rooms with private access to a terrace and personal entrance.
These are some of the comfiest looking beds you’ll set your eyes on. Big, bouncy and lined with crisp linen, they’re begging to be slept in. No doubt a good night’s sleep is guaranteed!
Not only does Spa Village Bath offer organic facials, a range of body wraps and scrubs, as well as a variety of massages, but there is also a selection of signature aquatic body therapies.
What’s an aquatic body therapy, I hear you ask? These therapies are performed in a thermal water pool and promote relaxation as well as a healthy body and mind. Freedom is a signature treatment with a therapist who will gently stretch and support your body as you are moved gracefully through the therapeutic waters.
Partnered with Michelin star chef Johann Lafer, the food at The Gainsborough is pretty special. Although Johann may not be a household name in England yet, he’s a well-known chef in Germany and even hosts his own cookery show. Johann’s Dining Without Boarders philosophy uses fresh, locally sourced produce to create spectacular gourmet dishes. The menu is a fusion of British and Malaysian fine dining.
The Gainsborough Bar
Separate from the main restaurant is this stylish but snug bar, fully stocked with all your favourite tipples including the city’s very own Bath Gin. Cool and contemporary, this bar is the perfect spot for a pre-dinner cocktail.
The Aroma Bar
This is a bar with a difference. Stocked to the brim with different oils and and sweet smelling herbs, you can mix together and concoct your personalised massage oil for a truly bespoke massage experience.
Enviably located, right in the centre of Bath, The Gainsborough couldn’t get any closer to the action. Step off the doorstep and into the historic city and you’re just moments away from all the top attractions and sights.
