In addition to its beautiful façades and rich history, Bath also boasts a thriving artisanal food scene. New culinary walking tour, Savouring Bath, is taking full advantage of this delicious uprising, and we had the delight giving the tour a go…
Let the Tour Commence!
We joined the Food Heroes of Bath tour, a three-hour tasting experience of Bath, focusing on the artisanal foodies of Bath who are continuously striving for new excellence and challenging people’s perceptions and expectations of everyday pantry-fillers.
Along the way, we sampled delicious treats, had our thirst quenched, and discovered the tales behind each delicacy. A seamless tour – perfectly punctual yet deliciously informal – we were made to feel like exclusive guests at every establishment. From Bath buns to Farmhouse Cheddar, there were delectable treats waiting for us at every stop, accompanied by the passionate owner to give us an insight into their story, their mission and their culinary craft.
We learnt of how a coffee-sceptic’s chance meeting with a persuasive barista on the other side of the world sparked a passion, and inspired a coffee revolution, how a Frenchman’s disdain at supermarket sliced white bread fuelled a hunger to put 'real' bread back onto the British breakfast table, and the distinct approach each foodie takes to ensure their product maintains the top quality standard and flavour they desire.
We finished the tour well and truly satisfied, our tongues treated by a world of flavours and textures, and our stomachs suitably (but not overbearingly) full. Just in case we were still a bit peckish, we were provided with a very handy Foodies’ Guide to Bath, which contained a rundown of all the places visited so we could find our way back for an extra taste, plus some additional delicious destinations for a spot of lunch, or to peruse during the afternoon.
If you have an afternoon spare, a rumble in your belly and hunger for something new and exquisite, Savouring Bath’s tours really are a must-do during your next visit.
