Bath is extremely photogenic at any time of year, but even more so in autumn. As the leaves turn amber and the honey-coloured Bath stone glows, it’s a truly spectacular city for photographing. We’ve compiled a list of ten of the best places to photograph in the autumn…
1. Pulteney Bridge
There are a few angles that capture the beauty of Pulteney Bridge exceptionally well. You can’t go wrong taking a photo from Parade Gardens, or head to North Parade Road and frame it perfectly with the golden banks on the River Avon. Alternatively, head past Turtle Bay on Bridge Street and go down the stone steps, where you can capture a fabulous photo of the back of the bridge – a more unusual and intriguing shot.

2. Bath Abbey
Bath Abbey exudes beauty, and even the most junior photographer will come away with a stunning picture. Standing directly in front of the Abbey is a particularly popular view, but all four sides of Bath Abbey make for a beautiful photo. Try visiting by day and then again by night when the Abbey is lit up.

3. The Circus
It’s hard to do The Circus justice without taking an aerial photograph. This is because it’s made up of Georgian townhouses in a circle that’s 318 feet in diameter. But you can still get some beautiful semi-circle shots with a carpet of burnt orange leaves from the trees that stand in the centre. It’s particularly interesting to note the Doric, Roman and Corinthian columns as well as the symbols and acorns that adorn the roof.

4. The Royal Crescent
Possibly Bath’s most photographed site, the Royal Crescent is justifiably one of Bath’s brightest shining stars. Stand quite far back and frame the tree and leaves in the forefront of the photo, or stand at one end of the Crescent and shoot along the length of it to show off its curves.

5. The Holburne Museum
The Holburne is the crowning jewel at the top of Great Pulteney Street and is just begging to be photographed. There’s also a modern glass extension at the back of the building, which is a complete juxtaposition to the front, so don’t miss this either.

6. Prior Park Landscape Garden
Designed by Capability Brown, the gardens here are breathtaking and particularly so in autumn, in the midst of red and orange foliage. You can choose to photograph the bridge from below, capturing Ralph Allen's eighteenth-century mansion in the background, or from above, with the rest of Bath laid out in the distance. Prior Park is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful spots to photograph.

7. Great Pulteney Street
One of Europe’s finest and grandest boulevards, Great Pulteney Street is an astounding example of Georgian architecture. Snap Great Pulteney Street from Laura Place fountain, where you can just make out the Holburne Museum in the distance.

8. Bath Skyline
One of the reasons that Bath is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site is due to its green landscape. It doesn’t take long to walk gently up and away from the city before reaching the surrounding countryside, and from here boasts some of the most inspiring views over Bath’s skyline.

9. The Botanical Gardens at Royal Victoria Park
Behind a wrought iron fence in a quiet corner of the expansive Royal Victoria Park lies the lovely Botanical Gardens. You will find bursts of autumn colours, sweet smelling plants and century-old trees that are a wonderful assault on your senses. Photograph everywhere and anywhere, and often you’ll capture a cheeky squirrel too.

10. Queen Square
The perfect place to people-watch in the summer, during the autumn months Queen Square's trees are the stars of the show. Embrace the amber, copper and golden colours of the leaves, and look out for the townhouse on the Square's western corner, entirely covered in ivy. In autumn the leaves turn completely red, and it's definitely a spectacular sight.
