Seven years before Jane Austen completed Northanger Abbey, William Beckford published a novel that parodied the 'sentimental' stories so admired by Austen's young heroine, Catherine Moreland. Join Dr Amy Frost as she reveals the similarities between the two writers and explores how Beckford satirises the writers while Austen turns her pen on the readers.
