About
Printers, publishers, entrepreneurs: how did Caxton & successors shape the English printing revolution?
This talk will explore Caxton's significance as a printer, publisher and entrepreneur; the growth of the book trade in London and beyond up to the early 18th century; trade regulation and censorship; and the emergence of what we now know as copyright as codified by statute in 1710. It will highlight the organisations that regulated the book trade, the men and women who printed and published, and the books they produced.
Speaker Professor Ian Gadd is a Professor of Literature at Bath Spa University.
