A cabin in the middle of woodland at Campwell Farm near Bath

About

Based on the edge of the village of Winsley, near Bath, this off-grid eco-friendly camp has been organically grown by 5th generation farm owner Tim since 2013, who dreamed of a simpler, more natural and adventurous world.

The Farm has 2 sites, Cotton Breeches (sleeps 12-16 for weekend group bookings), a site with 4 bell tents next to each other and Frys Wood (Sleeps 14-20 for weekend group bookings) which has a shingled cabin, a large yurt and 4 bell tents containing 12 single and 4 double or King size beds. Both Cotton Breeches and Frys Wood have their own timber facilities, hosting a wide variety of groups, couples and families. It boasts a fantastic location with so much adventure on the doorstep. You can feel world’s away from modern life, but be a short walk from a great farm shop, cafe and village pub.

Cotton Breeches

Cotton Breeches sleeps minimum 12 and maximum 16 guests and is available for long weekends, from 4pm on Friday to Monday morning. The bell tents, each sleeping four in single beds, are gathered in a private area of Tim’s land, with showers and compost loos used only by your group. Settle round the firepit or get the barbecue going in your private camp kitchen for long, lazy evenings, get out and active with wild swimming in the Avon, then really mix it up with a sheep herding session included in your stay! The peaceful, off-grid spot invites you to let go of modernity and embrace the natural life, but the showers are hot and there is internet down at the farmhouse, so you can share your triumphant shepherding video minutes.

Frys Wood

On the Frys Wood site, you'll find Abel’s cabin sat in a secluded glade of Fry’s wood. Surrounded by trees, you can feel truly part of the wild here. Designed to be as low impact as possible, all cooking can be done with wood fuels or our local charcoal. It’s insulated with sheep’s wool and built using local timber and even some trees from the woods. This space is for adventurers, with only beds, shelves, coat hooks and the bare essentials for the kitchen indoors, though there are USB charging points for those missing their devices. Outside the space you’ll find an array of cooking options for anything you’ve gathered - a fire pit for grilling, rocket stove for a sizzling sauté. You’ll also find the hammock, ready for afternoon naps gazing up into the canopy.

Also on the Frys Wood site you'll find, Overe the yurt, which has a deeply pleasing aesthetic, and the inside reveals the bare necessities for a good time. With space for up to 5, this is a great spot for families looking to reconnect in the wild, shed devices and get back to analogue living at its best. For winter days, or cooler nights, the yurt has a wood burner in the corner plus a private firepit outside – If you’re looking for more conventional options there’s a shared kitchen on the facility block nearby, along with a compost loo and shower facilities also in the vicinity.

Community Sauna

Enjoy the Finnish tradition of sauna at Campwell Farm. Guests and the local community can enjoy a wood-fired sauna, which promises an immersive experience, combining all the healing benefits of the hot sauna and cold water. It is available for private group bookings and community sessions for up to 12 people.
