Whisking your partner away for a romantic trip doesn't need to break the bank. Here are our suggestions for a budget break in Bath.

Couple walking and holding hands

Day One

If you’re in need of cheap accommodation in Bath, check out the local hostels that offer private rooms, or if you have a bit more to spend, you can find a great value package on our special offers page.

One of the best ways to see Bath and all its beautiful sights is on foot. Have fun exploring the city on a Treasure Hunt Bath Self-Guided Sightseeing Puzzle Tour, join the Mayor Bath Honorary Guides for a free two-hour walking tour around the city, or head on one of the many other tours on offer.

For lunch, grab a quick but tasty bite to eat at Good Day Cafe, with a choice of delicious soups, salads, pastries and cakes on offer.

Spend the afternoon exploring the Victoria Art Gallery, which offers free entry to their permanent collection. There’s also the option to purchase a Saver Ticket, which provides discounted entry into the Roman Baths and Fashion Museum, too.

When it’s time for dinner, take a look at our list of places that run great pre-theatre dinner offers.

After dinner, enjoy an evening at the Theatre Royal Bath, but on a budget! Great-value standby tickets can be purchased from their box office on the day of the performance.

Day Two

One of Bath's famous sights visible from almost anywhere in the city is Bath Abbey. With a small suggested donation on entry, it’s certainly worth exploring this magnificent building and its stunning interior.

Next, take to the Bath Skyline, famous for its breathtaking views over the city. Stroll together through the woodlands filled with flowers and points of archaeological interest along the way. The six-mile route is great for building up an appetite for lunch and offers some great spots to stop for a picnic lunch with a magnificent view.

After all that walking, rest your legs in the soothing thermal water at Thermae Bath Spa. If you’re looking to save a few pennies, you can book into a group session at the beautiful Cross Bath, one of the city's hidden gems.

For dinner, head to Bath Pizza Co, who offer a great 'Pizza and a Pint' deal throughout the week.

End your evening at The Bath Brew House, who often host free live music, comedy and a pub quiz, or The Bell, for open mic nights, DJ sets and live bands.

Day Three

Grab a hearty breakfast at The Cosy Club. Tuck into a full English breakfast, buttermilk pancakes or a breakfast bun, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available.

Next, head out on an adventure with Original Wild. Have a private stand-up paddleboarding session and glide along the river with views of Pulteney Bridge, or opt for a kayak city tour or a Code Break Bath Challenge.

Once you've worked up an appetite, enjoy an early dinner at Sally Lunn's Historic Eating House. Try the famous Sally Lunn bun with a choice of toppings, or opt for one of their Trencher dishes, where delicious toppings sit on top of traditional Trencher bread, which soaks up the flavour of the dish and is enjoyed as part of the meal.

Finish your trip by cuddling up to your loved one on a spooky evening walking tour. Experience a thrilling tour of the city with Ghost Walks of Bath or Bath Ghost Tours, or follow in the footsteps of Mary Shelley on a Frankenstein in Bath tour.
