About
By honouring all things light and joyful, the Holburne Museum marks Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, which will be celebrated on Friday, 1 November 2024. This vibrant event promises to captivate attendees of all ages with an exciting array of entertainment. The evening begins with creative workshops, followed by pop-up food stalls, a screening of Joyland (2022, Age rating 15) by Aakanksha Lekharaju, and a mesmerizing Indian dance performance by Odissi dancer Dakshina Raghavendr. The grand finale will take place in the museum garden, featuring a spectacular fire dancing show starting at 8:30 PM.
Participants in the FREE creative workshop will have the opportunity to craft decorative light-up flowers, inspired by the neon illuminations of Chila Kumari Singh Burman that adorn the museum’s facade. For a more hands-on experience, the pre-booked family workshop (£3.00) offers attendees a chance to create festive garlands using beads and textiles.
Spaces for the decorative garland-making workshop are limited, so those interested should book in advance to secure their spot.
In addition to the workshops, a variety of food and drink will be available for purchase from food stalls operated by Sepoy Club, Maya, and local Indian chef Krishnaa Shyam Sundar, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The Holburne Festival of Light is an inclusive event, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether a frequent visitor or exploring the museum for the first time, this celebration offers a perfect opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate together.
Attendees are also invited to explore the museum's latest temporary exhibition, Uncanny Visions: Paula Rego and Francisco de Goya, along with the permanent collection, for free throughout the event. No booking required!
