About

To mark the 60th anniversary of both the US Voting Rights Act and the UK’s Race Relations Act, Bath Film Festival presents a powerful and timely screening of Selma (2014), Ava DuVernay’s critically acclaimed account of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s campaign for equal voting rights.

This moving and urgent film captures the historic 1965 Selma to Montgomery march and the courage of those who fought for change in the face of brutality and injustice. With a standout performance by David Oyelowo and a stirring Oscar-winning song by Common and John Legend, Selma is more than a history lesson – it’s a reminder of the power of collective action.

After the screening, join us for a thought-provoking discussion with Roger Griffith MBE, author, broadcaster and social commentator. Roger brings unique insights into civil rights and racial justice, having travelled to Selma and spoken across the UK on its ongoing legacy. His perspectives link the story of Selma to contemporary issues in both the US and the UK.

This special event is presented in partnership with the American Museum & Gardens and forms part of FilmBath’s commitment to exploring civil rights, representation, and cinema’s power to provoke change.
