About
How did Renaissance ideas have their roots beyond Europe? Discover more about this great journey of ideas!
Over 2,500 years ago, ideas from the East began flowing into Europe. Some of the more traceable influences came during the Ottoman period, when the vast empire that spanned both Europe and Asia around the Mediterranean facilitated cultural and intellectual exchange.
By the 12th century, figures in Italy, such as Fibonacci of Pisa, were introducing new concepts that reshaped thought. By the 18th century, ideas were being put into practice, sparking the Industrial Revolution and laying the foundations for the British Empire.
Speakers Dr Peter Ford and Deepali Gaskell.
