About
Visitors can learn about traditional Japanese tea culture through this Tea Ceremony, hosted in the museum galleries on 24 April, 22 May, and 19 June 2025.
During the event, guests will experience ceremonial-grade matcha tea, carefully prepared by Yukie Williams, who has over a decade of experience in practicing tea ceremonies, known as sadō (茶道). Drawing inspiration from both her formal training and her early years in Japan, Yukie Williams will provide an explanation of the Japanese Tea Ceremony, guiding participants through each step of the process.
To accompany the matcha, attendees will have the opportunity to sample nerikiri, a traditional Japanese sweet. These handcrafted sweets are created by Ryoko Stibbe specifically for MEAA’s Japanese Tea Ceremonies, with each session featuring a unique design reflecting the seasons.
As part of the event, each participant will receive a 3g pouch of matcha, courtesy of Comins Tea. With the knowledge gained during the ceremony, they will have the opportunity to prepare authentic matcha at home.
Following the Tea Ceremony session, guests can explore the Museum, including its new exhibition and Discovery Room.
This event is supported by Comins Tea.
