About
The Mr B's Team are absolutely over the moon to welcome bestselling author and screenwriter, Moira Buffini, to the shop to discuss Torchfire, the sequel to her incredible YA dystopia Songlight!
Set in a dystopic world that feels very close to our England, we're following a chorus of young voices, some with the strange musical telepathy called Songlight and some without. In a world where songlight is feared, where women are controlled, where the wrong move can get you killed, how are you supposed to survive? Especially with a war raging around you, with the enemy fighting for your freedom?
Songlight took the Mr B's team by storm last year, chosen as Hannah's favourite read of 2024 but read and loved by so many other team members. This is the Handmaid's Tale meets Hunger Games, a story full of incredibly complex, well-written characters, pace that keeps you moving, and love stories that will break your heart! If possible…Torchfire is even better than book one! Moira Buffini is also one of the talented screenwriters behind Jane Eyre (starring Mia Wasikowska) and The Dig (starring Carey Mulligan).
About the book:
Book two in global phenomenon, the torch trilogy. Love, power, rebellion… In a world where songlight is either your greatest gift or your greatest curse, the Brethren are tightening their power.
But Torches are still finding ways to commune. Lark is on the run, headed for Brightlinghelm, with an enigmatic enemy in her boat. Nightingale is a prisoner, working to free herself from Sister Swan's gilded cage.
Rye is crossing the ocean on a journey into the dangerous unknown. And Piper must play his role as the Brethren's elite airman. All four are united by a desire for peace.
But peace feels more elusive than ever. Could Petra, in her majestic airship, be their saviour, or will her people prove an even greater threat? When survival is on a knife edge, Who will triumph: those with songlight, or those without?
