About
Helios is a brand-new 7-metre diameter sculpture by artist Luke Jerram and will be launching to the public at Bath Assembly Rooms. Helios, Ancient Greek for the sun, follows Luke’s previous celestial sculptures of ‘Gaia’ ‘Museum of the Moon’ and ‘Mars’.
With rippling lights, solar imagery and sounds of the sun recorded by NASA, you’re invited to come and experience this audio-visual wonder.
Scaled so that each centimetre represents 200 kilometres of the real sun’s surface, this is a unique opportunity to take a closer look at the star and details such as sunspots and solar flares.
Helios will hang from the centre of the Ball Room ceiling, where you will be able to actually walk beneath the sculpture.
To celebrate the launch of Helios, Bath Assembly Rooms will open for free on 11 and 12 Jan. From 18 Jan normal admission charges apply (free for National Trust members). Helios will remain at Bath Assembly Rooms for the ReBalance Festival and February half term.
