Budo Ba, meaning Grapes Bar in Japanese, is a take on the Japanese izakaya style of drinking and eating.
Located in The Grapes Bath, the Budo Ba offers a changing seasonal food menu complimented by some of the best sake on offer in the city.
Growing out of a love for Japanese flavours – a previous gap in the market in Bath – The Grapes team saw an opportunity to launch the Secret Izakaya Supper Clubs to share their love of unique Japanese dishes with others.
Izakayas are pubs in Japan offering savoury, salty and umami-rich dishes that go perfectly with a good beer, sake, or Japanese whisky. Bars for people who love food, music, conversation and a few drinks, izakayas are often bustling, low-lit and full of laughter.
Sharing is a key part of the izakaya experience so choosing a variety of dishes, enough of each for everyone to try, is recommended. Choose to eat at the bar, or if there are more of you, make for The Grapes’ stunning Pococks Living Room, upstairs, with its rare Jacobean lime plaster ceiling.
There’s no need to book, just wander up, but if you’re a large group and want to make sure they can fit you in, head over to their website to make a booking.
Kanpai – cheers!
