Festivals and Events

Bath is a thriving, vibrant city with a year round calendar of festivals, theatrical, musical and sporting events. Jane Austen fans will enjoy the festival dedicated to her in September or attending a show at the theatre, something that Jane herself loved to do.

The Jane Austen Festival (September)Jane Austen Festival

Come and join the Jane Austen Festival in Bath! The Festival begins with the spectacular Grand Regency Costumed Promenade with over 500 participants. Other events include walks, talks, minibus tours and day trips, musical recitals and concerts, workshops on playing the harp, bonnet making, Regency dancing, and even archery.

Theatrical Highlights

Strictly Jane Austen The Original Theatre that Jane Austen loved to attend opened in Orchard Street in 1750. In 1768 it was distinguished by being the first theatre outside London to be protected by a royal patent. This theatre drew superstars of the time like Sarah Siddons and today the Theatre Royal in Sawclose, dating from 1805, attracts pre-West End shows and top name performers.

You can also catch a show at the Mission Theatre, a 200 year old former chapel or the art deco styled Little Theatre Cinema.
