Michael Tippett Centre
The Michael Tippett Centre, Bath’s only purpose-built concert hall, hosts a busy schedule of public concerts including classical, jazz and world and contemporary music. The Centre is also a hub of musical teaching activity for Bath Spa University’s Music courses, so student music is at its heart.
Based on the design of Snape Maltings, an arts complex in Sussex, the Michael Tippett Centre’s acoustics were designed to highlight the melodies of chamber and small ensemble music. The venue was opened by Sir Michael Tippett himself – a former local resident and examiner for Music at Bath Spa University.
The 150-seat auditorium has hosted world-class talent from every musical tradition and every part of the globe including student performances, Indonesian Gamelan and The Bookshop Band.
